Nikon Pronea 6i film compartment latch

I just found my Nikon Pronea 6i. I had been using a digital camera, but would really like to start taking "real" pictures again. However, the latch to open the flap where the film is is stuck. The latch won't budge, and the film door won't open. The batteries are dead, but I wouldn't think this would cause the latch to freeze, would it?

I've never seen a camera that has an electrical interlock so that you can't open the film door at the wrong time - but really don't have any experience with APS cameras, either. You might try changing the batteries, who knows! If not (as will probably be the case) you could call 800-nikon-us if no one has any ideas here.

Thank you. I replaced the batteries, and the film still wouldn't come out, then I took the whole roll of film, and was able to open the latch. I could've sworn, though, that with an SLR you should be able to take the film out mid roll, so I called Nikon at the number you provided and they helped me out. Thank you again for your help.
