Seems like almost anything according to the manual.
Seems there are no fancy automatic modes like other manufacturers.
So it's a basic interface for the flash, either a simple hot-shoe (only one pin, not multi-pin) or using the PC flash socket.
So flashes like Canon and Nikon designed to interface to the camera and have intelligent control will be wasted expense.

i used S9500 and used vivitar flash, starblitz, and few other compact flash guns for small rooms besides vivitar-485 with all success. i do not believe keeping costly brands one gun only. in that, i shall buy 2-3 other guns which are quite reliable and without any burden on one can use as i like. besides seeing the guide no. u can try and see the result on yr camera's LCD.

I have (had before I gave it to my son) a fuji s9100...Anyhow, I had an external Quantary flash that worked with the camera, but could never get it to work really right. Always under or over exposed the pics. It was hit or miss. At times it was the greatest thing since sliced bread and other times, it was a disaster...

Unless fuji comes out with a proper flash unit, I would not get one.
