Film scanner-zoom lens

Hi this is my first post.

I have 2 serious proplems :)

1. I DONT KNOW WHICH FILM SCANNER I SHOULD BUY :rolleyes:

2. I WANT TO BUY A ZOOM LENS (tele) .ANY RECOMMENTATIONS? :confused:

(i own a Nikon F70 and i was thinking of sigma 135-400)


Please help :(

Welcome. Answers to both of these will be determined by what you want to do with them (lens, especially) and your budget. Any more info?

my budjet is about 400 euros for a lens and 200-300 euros for a slide scanner...
does it helps???

oh i forgot , as long as what i want from a lens , is to cover the range from 100mm to 300 or 400mm

Looks like the euro is about $1.28 today...

The Nikon Coolscan V is a great scanner but maybe just a little bit out of your price range. Another option would be a new/old stock Coolscan IV which you could probably find on ebay, etc. The newer V has an updated version of digital ICE which is supposed to work better. I have an old Acer 2720S (now Benq) which is still made and less money than either of these. I probably wouldn't recommend it though, no digital ice and scans from a friend's IV look much better (and he's no Photoshop expert!).

Not sure on the lens. That's honestly not much to work with so depending on what you want to do maybe the Tokina AF 400 f5.6 is a good choice. It's a 400mm prime (not a zoom) and there may be some compatibility issues with newer cameras, but that can be fixed. They're very inexpensive for the image quality. If you do need a zoom, Tokina's 80-400 (newer version with tripod mount) isn't bad but I've had some flaring problems with my digital SLR in bright conditions. In low contrast light, under 200mm it's as sharp as anything - but again probably a little above your budget. I hear Nikon's 70-300 is pretty good, just don't get the "G" version. Used it a little myself and been impressed.

Looks like your budget would almost cover a D70. I'd buy that and skip the film scanner -- seriously.
