downloading files

    downloading files
    Ok, if I plug in my lexar card reader into a usb port, can i download files from my cf card without nikon software installed? (all images recored as normal jpeg large file, nikon d 70 camera).
    Dont have anything special, but I dont want to lose it.

    Mark,

    Your card reader should act like an external drive. Most likely the D: drive. If you go to explorer, you should be able to find the files on your card and highlight them and drag them, or do a copy and paste, to where ever you want on your computer. Hope this helps.

    It will work just fine. Usually for me it shows up as the "E" drive but look for USB Mass Storage device or something like that. I usually just go to (In WinXP):

    Start > My Computer > (whatever the drive shows up as) > Select All > Copy to...

    Notice I said copy. If you select move, it takes the images off the CF card (but you might be able to use image rescue to get them back). My paranoid reasoning is that if there's a problem with the transfer, you might not have either copy (CF card or destination drive). If you copy, you'll still have the CF card.
