Who are Quantaray?

Someone recently bought a lens on my behalf in the USA from a Ritz Camera - I had given the spec for a Sigma 70-300mm zoom lens for Canon AF. However Ritz sold her a Quantaray version insisting it was the same thing. I am angry at Ritz for this as it wasn't what I had asked for and also becuase I have never heard of Quantaray (I am in the UK) and have no idea if the quality is worse than Sigma, i.e. glass quality the same, noise levels etc?

Can anyone advise?

Ritz is the largest camera chain store in the US and is well-known for pushing its "Quantaray" brand and telling unknowledgeable "newbies" that Quantaray is as good as Nikon, Canon, etc. for a slightly lower price. They re-label bags, tripods, flashes, and lenses from various manufacturers with the Quantaray label. The lenses are generally Sigmas. If you compare your lens to Sigma, you'll probably find that it looks the same except for the label.

Thank you I thought that might be the case - i'm probably no worse off then than if I had got the Sigma one.
