Digicam went a-swimming ...

Hello to all...
I just got back from a fantastic holiday at Nice but had an unfortunate experience....i dropped my Olympus C 160 fixed focal lens/2 MP camera into the sea...all though i fished it out immedietely...it had already died by then.... Made a few scratchy sounds ( the salt i guess ) and now doesnt do anythig except show me an orange light...

Is some thing like this repairable or am i wasting my time? any idea how much it will cost?

Years ago, my Canon S100 fell into the muddy and polluted Brandywine river several times (long story, bad day). I rinsed the CF card off and let it dry. It worked perfectly and I lost nothing. The camera was dead so I gave it to a friend of mine. Canon charged her $150 to take it apart and clean it up. That was very cheap compared to the price of the camera at that time. She still has it.

Call Olympus and see what they want to fix it. It's worth a phone call!

Probably not, but the memory card should still be fine. I've never heard of a case of something swimming in salt water and having the repair cost less than the piece is worth - this includes lenses! Fresh water you'd still probably be out of luck, but the odds are better.

I do believe minimum repairs across the bourd on digitals is in the $150+ range
