Colour Balance Problems

Hi I wonder if any one can help me improve my pictures.

I have been taking pictures of us offroading in 4x4s driving through fords. They are continuous shots. The car and surroundings are fine to begin with but when the car hits the water and the wall of water flies up the picture goes white and then when the water has gone back down the picture is then to dark.

I’m using a Nikon D60 with the 18-55mm VR Lens and a Tamron 70-300mm Lens. I was wondering if the camera struggles to register the large changes in light that fast and if there is anything that I can do to stop this happening.

Is this in sunlight? I suspect that the water is overexposed.

Try getting the correct exposure just before the action, and lock the exposure during the action. There is an exposure lock slide switch on the back of the nikon's. Just remember to unlock the exposure afterwords. I would all set the capture mode to RAW plus jpg. That way you have 12 bits to play with unlike the JPG's 8 bits. But you will have allow for the extra memory use. Use of NEF (raw) file will allow for more exposure correction range over JPG files.

I would suspect you have the meter either on spot or center weighted. You might try matrix and see if it helps. Posting some pictures along with your EXIF data will help us help you, Jeff
