Cleaning

After 24 hours at le Mans and 3 days at Goodwood, my equipment is in need of a clean.
Strangely the lens that I was using on the Rally Stage was almost spotless.
But the body and the 'spare' 24-70 that was in my coat-of-many-pockets are in need of attention.

What I plan:
1) exterior sponge bath
a wash is out of the question :D
so what, use a damp (not wet) cloth to remove the dust?
then air dry and wipe off any remaindr wiht a lint free cloth?
or wipe dry with lint-free cloth immediately?

2) interior body and sensor clean
how on earth do I do that?
Canon just say "return it to us"
right, like I'm going to see it again before I need it for the Hungarian Grand Prix !

Oh by the way, these are taken with my Wife's PAnasonic FZ20 - nice little camera that !

Best thing to do is to start with a can of compressed air which you can get at any photo store for about $10. It's safe to use on the outside, just try to use a bit of aiming so you don't blow the dirt further into cracks. It can be used to blow out the inside if done carefully. Only squeeze the trigger half way to not use as much force and be careful where you point it.

After the majority of the dirt is blown away, clean the outside with a damp cloth and Qtips for tight corners. If the inside of the camera needs more cleaning it's safer to have it cleaned professionally.

For lenses, use the air, then a damp cloth for the lens body, and lens cleaner and tissue for the front and rear elements. If dust got inside the lens, it will need to be disassembled for cleaning.
