Re: SD cards vs CF cards??

My camera uses both CF and SD cards, I have not seen any difference in write speed or download speed, at least not enough to worry about on the download side.
I don't use the cheapest cards though either. I do suggest getting cards that will work best with your particular camera. Check out the other discussions recently on cards by doing a search of the site. There is one recent discussioon that also has a link to a site with card speeds tested in various cameras.

    That would be me...

They're just different sized cards, no real difference between the two other than the fact that you need the right one for the camera. Most DSLR's use CF cards, and most current point & shoot digital cameras use SD cards or some other proprietary format (XD, memory stick, etc). My fairly old P&S digital uses CF cards and so does my DSLR - so I've accumulated a few gigs worth of cards.

Nothing at all wrong with the D50. I wouldn't buy one personally only because of all of the cards I already have. If I bought a D50, then I'd probably want 2G of SD cards. The price of all of that is about the same price of a D70s, which uses the cards I already have. Nothing more than that.

SD cards are much thinner than CF cards, so you need to take much more care with them, otherwise they could break. Personally I like the CF cards for the thickness of them and less likelyhood to damage them inadvertantly.

I have to support the SD cards. My Coolpix uses the CF...My main complaint for this card is that it isn't supported by my laptop, where my SD cards are. I use SD cards in my Pentax's and my Kodak. I have 2 2gig Ultra II's, and 2 256mb SD cards (one has almost 40000 shots used on it) and 1 80X CF card. I really can't tell any difference in any of them.

I use both in different cameras and don't find a noticeable difference between the two. Go for speed more than anything else.

Re: SD cards vs CF cards??

I think SD cards are too small and flimsy. I have used SD and Memory Stick Duo Pro and both are too small (if that were possible in this digital world). It's too easy to misplace them or sit on them. CF cards definitely have bulk to them but I think that is a positive. Still smaller than carrying around several dozen 35mm film.

But Ken mentioned a good point. My laptop reads everything BUT a CF card. A $10 USB adapter solves that but I'm always forgetting to carry that around.

I have the same issue with cell phones - there is such a thing as getting too small. The distance between my ear and my mouth hasn't changed.
