canon powershot s50 problem

I have powershot s50 and it has been great so far. In the past few weeks the LCD monitor seems to have been playing up - often staying black when I switch on the camera before eventually reverting to the regular image. Though I can always see the image through the viewfinder. This has been most marked in bright sunlight or indoors. Today the LCD monitor has stayed blac and I cannot get an image. Should I just call it a day and take it back to the dealer or Canon or am I missing something really basic ? Any thoughts would be reallly appreciated

I don't know if this is the case with the S50, but some cameras have battery conserving features which will disable the LCD when the batteries are low. Try recharging or replacing the battery and see if that fixes the problem.
