I'm sure they're both good choices. Nikon and Canon both make good products and have tons of available accessories. Any specific questions on why one might be better than another in your case? Have you read the reviews on this site?

    Age old debate

If you are starting from scratch, then either one will be great. Nikon and Canon both make great products. You are investing in a system and once you start one direction or another you it will cost you quite a decent amount of money to change systems. Nikon's kit lenses tend to be a little better than Canon's, Canon's Pro lenses seem to be maybe a little bit better than Nikon's offerings. It's up to you, start with one or the other system and start taking pictures.

As a Canon user I am going to buck my preferances and say the Nikon is better in this case. I don't have very high opinions for Canon's "entry level" cameras, but I really liked the features on the N75. I like it so much in fact, that I bought one for my grandmother for X-mas and she loves it! Put it with a 50mm lens and you have a great combo!
