Canon Lens Recomendations

In a previous post, many recomended I upgrade my lenses rather than camera body. I have a Elan IIE and I have started looking for lenses. I enjoy taking pictures of sports, people, and I tend to have a ton of shots of our dog. Does anyone have a good 28-70 or 28-105, Canon lens recomendation. I have a Tamron 28-80 right now, which has been great to learn on, but I'd like to take the next step in photography.

I currently use the Canon 28-70mm f/2.8L - an astonishingly good piece of glass and highly recommended - nice fast AF, built like a tank with stonking optics. It's no longer available new - but good second hand examples show up from time to time at reasonably sensible prices. (If your budget stretches then of course there's also the current Canon 'standard' pro zoom 24-70mm f/2.8L).

However, a zoom of that nature is not really going to be suitable for most sports - you'll be needing a significantly longer focal length.
