    Burning photos to a DVD?
I just tried to burn some photos to a DVD for the first time. Everything looks like it worked, but when I move the DVD from my laptop, to my desktop, I can't access them. It wont even recognize that I have inserted a disc into the drive. Is there a special kind of format that I'm missing here? I'm using a Memorex DVD+RW disc. When I first put it in the laptop, it asked me to format it, so I did. Then I selected the files I wanted to put on the disc, and clicked on copy files. It coppied everything from the hard drive to the disc. I am able to open the files from the disc on the laptop, but not on the desktop. Am I using the wrong type of disc or is it formated wrong, or is my old laptop just not capable of reading this type of disc? My desk top had 2 disc drives. When I put in in the first drive, it acts like there is no disc inserted at all. When I put it in the DVD drive and go to Explorer, is shows up as UDF Drive I, but none of the files show up. I right cliced on it in explorer, and when to properties, and it says the disc is full, but nothing shows up. In the status bar at the bottom of the explorer window, it says 0 objecs (plus 1 hidden). Any suggestions?

That's a good question Peter. I really don't know what program was used to burn them to the DVD. Everything I did was from the Explorer window... I just tried the disc in my PC at work, and it acts as if there is nothing in the drive. Looks like I know what I will be doing this weekend.

Are you just copying the images to the DVD ? Are you using Windows XP ?? Have you tried do this with something like Nero ??? A good program that I have found that is relatively easy to use is FlipAlbum Pro. There is also Photo 2 VCD Studio 3, but there are many programs out there that do a good job as well.

You might find that when you are burning the DVD it isn't finalising the DVD and that might be what is causing the other computers to not be able to recognise the DVD. I know I can't use DVD-RW in one of my DVD players for the TV it doesn't recognise the DVD at all as being usuable, and on the others, depends on how I setup the DVD with Menus etc as well wether it works or not.

    Have fun.

Thanks for taking the time to help me on this Peter. I played around with it last night, and figured it out. I am using XP and I found a program called Sonic that came with the computer that did the trick. One thing that I find a little odd tho, is that only one of the CD drives on my desk top PC recognizes the DVD. The top drive on the desk top is pretty much all that I ever have used, but my bottom drive is a DVD drive, and that is the one I have to use to access the DVD disc I just burned. I wonder if I'm going to have to have a DVD drive on my PC at work to be able to access the disc...

    Hi mjs,

Yes, you need at least a DVD-ROM (iow, doesn't have to be a writable) to access content from a DVD.
Simply put, CD drives can access CDs only, DVD drives can access DVDs and CDs.
