    big problem
    hi everyone.
I am in quite the dilema. I have been using my buddies computer for about 6-7 months, and he said i could pretty much have it. so photoshop is on it and all my photo work. well one morning i try to boot it up, and hal.dll is deleted or corrupt. i cant find any way to get on this computer. all of my original sized photos are on this computer. most of my better photos are on internet, hosted by photobucket, but they are too small to get prints. is there any way to upsize an image without reducing quality? or any way to restore hal.dll on the computer without wiping all the memory? if anyone can help, please let me know.
    Thanks!

What type of computer are you using? (Mac, PC) If you're using a PC and have the Win XP disk, there is a utility that will repair your windows files.

Also try a Yahoo search for "Hal.dll". Looks like some others have had the same problem.

If you're able to boot into Safe Mode, you'll want to copy ALL your important stuff off the computer to DVDs, or an external hard drive, then verify they work on another computer. That way incase you have to re-install windows (not fun, been there done that) you have a backup of all your work. Good luck!

If all else fails try getting another hard drive using it as a master, use your old one as a slave and try and get your files that way. Or put your drive in another computer as a slave.

Be carefull, DO NOT use the restore disk. The restore disk will wipe the harddrive and it will be just like it was from the store. You can take the window xp installation disk (not the OEM Restore disk) and run the setup. I will not wipe the harddisk but you will have to reinstall all the programs, if you do not select repair this windows installation. Make sure to copy all your data off the drive and run a utility like scandisk after you backup to make sure the drive is ok.
