Battery Drain
Hi all,

I'm having a real problem with battery drain at the moment and it was never a problem before. I have a 35mm SLR that was in storage for a while. I made the cardinal error of not taking out the batteries and you guessed it...they leaked. I cleaned the contacts up as best I could but the camers now eats batteries, even when its turned off. What is going on here and is there anything I can do?
Thanks

KEEP CLEANING IT!

CLEAN, CLEAN CLEAN!!

IF that DOESN'T work.......{ I FEEL} it may need a repair.

You may be entitled to a FREE repair
What type of batteries are they? I believe the major brands have guarentees that their batteries will not leak or they will repair the device free of charge.

Check it out!

Leaky batteries
There is a short in your camera that is causing high leakage currents. This is often a result of acid flowing onto the PCB contacts.
The cell manufacturers will not guarantee alkaline batteries from leaking because the cathode is the outer casing - if you leave a cell connected, the cathode will dissolve (it has to, that's how alkaline cells work).
You can try cleaning it yourself, but I think a shop would be easier and safer.
