new camera problems

I have just got a CASIO QV-R61. I managed to take 3 pictures then it switched off. Now when I switch it on it beeps then goes off. I can bring up the menus when it has been off for a while but as I move down a menu it switches off. The next time I put it on it turns off straightway. The batteries are charged fully. It is brand new. Just wondered if anyone else had this problem. This is my first digital camera and I am scared it is somehow damaged. I am using the internal memory at the moment. I think it may be set to powerdown too fast but can't get it to stay on long enough to do anything. I am taking it into the shop tomorrow.

Try leaving the battery charging for 24 hours and make sure you don't touch the camera at all (don't mess w/ power, etc.). Some chargers need to drain the entire battery down then recharge it. If the batteries have developed a "memory" they may "think" they are fully charged when they are not.

Have you tried loading a fresh pack of regular AA batteries?

Thanks for the reply. The light goes off on the charger when they are fully charged. I see what you mean but the batteries have only been charged twice. I have already tried switching the camera on and getting to the menus, might I have damaged it? At least with a film camera I know what has gone wrong but with digital I am a bit clueless. The shop I got it from have no technicians and need to send it away to see whats wrong. If I knew it was broken that is ok but I am not sure if it is just something I have pressed.Thanks again.

You say you are only using the internal memory (9.7MB according to the specs). Do you mean that you don't have a card in the camera?
I think that what I would do is install some new alkaline batteries making sure I have them oriented right and also stick a memory card in there. If it still acts the same I think I'd try to get ahold of Casio support (if such a thing exists). Since it's a brand new camera I would think that a return to the store would be an option as well with a credit card company backing you up if that's how you paid for it. At what kind of a store did you buy it?

I do have a card(256) but was just trying it out first.
The batteries are the right way( I checked too!!)
I paid on debit card at Dixons, an electronic shop.
It is brand new but I have used it so I'm not sure if they would say that the problem was due to me using it.

You didn't drop it or run it over with your car so the problem is with the camera. I'd take it back and get something else. Exchange for a Canon if Powershot G series if you can. The rechargeable BP511 batteries last forever.
