First film prints

Got my first roll developed today that I shot on my pentax mf camera. I'm a little less than thrilled wiht the color balance, saturation, and contrast, but overall I think they are ok. Is this a case where a UV filter would have improved the prints?

Looking good for your first roll What film were you shooting? Were these prints or negative scans? Judging by the shadows you were shooting in midday sun which is not very forgiving unfortunately. A UV or Haze filter would help some or ideally a Polarizer. I'm assuming your 50mm lens uses 52mm filters. You can pick up used polarizers for cheap in that size and would make a big difference in a situation like that.

I shot a roll of Kodak 200 from target... Just cheap stuff... I asked how their 1hr system worked, and from what I could gather, they scanned the negatives. Looking again, I think the prints looks a bit better than the digital files.

They all pretty good to me, the exception being that cactus shot that is simply over exposed...Perhaps the chain is also, but true, in those conditions unless you use filter as Aaron suggested, it will tough...I also agree, the prints that I get also look better than the CD. I look forward to seeing more pics from you.

The camera I have only has full stop incriments for shutter speeds, and I'm not sure what steps the lens has on it. Oh, and it only has full auto or AP modes. The "backlight" button makes it overexpose by 1.5 stops, dunno how you get .5 stops when your shutter only goes 1 stop at a time though.

Now, I did notice while spinning the aperture ring while holding a half press, it takes a couple clicks of the aperture before it'll move to another shutter speed. So, in essence, if I use one click up or down (dunno if it's 1/2 or 1/3 stop increments off the top of my head, and too lazy to dig the camera out right now ), while the shutter speed stays the same, am I technically slightly adjusting the exposure a little one way or the other?

Thanks for the help... What I'm hoping to get out of this fim experience is to learn to take more care in my composure... with digital it's easy to machine gun away and filter out the crap at home on the pc....I'd like to shoot less crap...

Yes and yes. This is why I went film at first, but soon fell in love with the look of film and the satisfaction I get when I view my film images because they all mean something. My keeper rate with film is at about 90% where my keeper rate with digital is at about 5%...I also take about a 1/3 less pics than I use to take.
