    Show your Kodachrome!!
"... they give us those nice bright colors ,"
it's so sad they took our Kodachrome away.

    with apologies to Paul Simon.

Show us some Kodachrome. Old, new, family pics, serious work, you be the judge. I have got tons of these from the family archives.

These first ones to get started are 40 years old !! Two slides and a larger image of one. Click on the slide with Geodesic - Fuller dome construction for a straight from the scanner sample. The other image is just not worth blowing up.

Montreal Canada World's Fair and street image from the Paul R. Flowers archive(Grandpa). Shot in early 1969.

Some from me to follow in a later post including some of the first Kodachrome I ever took!

    Wastwater 1976
Wastwater in the Lake District (England). The sun peeks out under the clouds at the end of another rainy day and illuminates the screes. Done with a tripod on Kodachrome 25.

I liked the colours of Kodachrome 25 - but I switched over to Velvia when it became available. But I hated the film speed (25 ISO). Standard exposure in daylight was 1/125s f5.6. I had one body loaded with Kodachrome for landscapes and one body loaded with 400 ISO black-and-white (HP5) to tell the story of the trip and finally it was quite a good solution.

Here are a couple more, same period, same area. The walking-in-the-rain one was done on "fast" Kodachrome K64, which I never really took to.

    My First Kodachrome!
Certainly almost the first. This is a sample from one of the first rolls of Kodachrome I got to shoot on my own of what I wanted to photograph.

This is a recent scan and you can read more of the 'back story' to this and some other earlier Kodachrome images in the Expensive Debris blog entry - I found 'em!

    Nice shot Loupey!

I do not really miss Kodachrome by any means. I can fairly reliably re-create it with filters or certain camera techniques if desired. It was an era certainly that is now all but gone. I am pleased that some people are taking one last 'shot' at it and are sharing their work from 'before'!

While scanning a few samples anew for this post I kept reminding myself of 'little' things that made it work better. Thus a couple of my scans are just that, raw untouched (except posting preparation) scans dirt and all! The dirt or preventing it, the 'fixing' certain items in a scan and the time consumption alone I don't miss.

I hope we get a few more images from the last of the K-chrome users before the stock and chemicals are all finally exhausted.

    Mike,

I missed this woodland scene the last time I looked and I really like this one.

The leaves in your latest post and the lake shore are also great examples of this modern version of the old classic!

Post as many as you want as one of these days, this stuff won't be around anymore!

    The End Draws Near
Less than 5 months to get your film processed! Then its gone . . .

There are several articles elsewhere about Steve McCurry and his shooting the last official role of Kodachrome. A documentary is in the works as well.

As mentioned before, old or newer forumlations are all fair game. Tell us when you shot it, which 'flavor' of Kodachrome, and I am also interested in what camera(s) and lens you used to get those 'nice bright colors'!

Remember, less than 5 months to get it processed.

This thread is getting good. I hope people continue to share their Kodachrome photos here and it grows into a serious archive. Maybe I'll even add something of my own when I can get to my slide archive in California!

I received my last two rolls of KM in the mail today. It was kind of like Christmas. The one roll was about a year old and I had no idea what was on it. I thought it was going to be photos from Grand Teton NP from last fall. I was wrong. It was used up at the Hyde Mill last winter. The same place I took my final roll to a week and a half ago to use up. Here is a scan from the mystery roll. KM is known for its great colors, but this shot looks B&W on the light table.

A few more from the Archives including a 'special' that I am posting separately for Veteran's Day in the Viewfinder forum too.

The three 'darker and bluer' photographs is what happened with Kodachrome that was underexposed. Not enough differentiation in gradients for it to 'take' the color fully in all areas of the emulsion during processing. This is all pre-Kodachrome II film. I've taken better Picasso Photos in terms of exposure and even focus in one of these two cases, but none have quite the same feel that I've run across on film so far nor on older Kodachrome.

The ship photograph and the Sardi's restaurant in New York photo which was taken from a cab window are from an archive I own/administer which includes my Grandfather's work.

No way to warn that there's nudity here, so I hope it's OK (it's nothing too outrageous ...)

    Re: Show your Kodachrome!!
Nude/cheesecake on modern(type II) Kodachrome, wow! That's somewhat rare I'd say. Good to have in this final collection.

By the way, ISO 40 Kodachrome is an older (and I didn't know there was much if any stock of it around) movie film designated stock. One of the Seattle companies or California stock houses may have repackaged older stock into 135 cartridges at some point. Or it may have been a special order for a foreign film maker who wanted one last vintage appearing film and couldn't afford the digital version. ISO 50 has been the lowest standard speed stock cinema film for several years. Of course special orders have been possible!

Realistically if you haven't shot your Kodachrome film up by now and it has been or is being processed, it most likely won't happen.

Still keep those images coming be they new or old. There's several more photos from the "olden' days" I am going to post after the first of the year when this is all just a memory.

Btw, I imagine that Dwayne's was swamped with KR in the final days.. Maybe they're still processing some of what they received.

This was the very last frame I shot, the building is the City of Toronto's First Post Office (4th Post office for the City of York) it was shut down after the Rebellions in1837 when the postmaster was framed for aiding the anti-government rebels. It was restored and reopened in 1983 and serves both as a full service Post Office (I mailed the roll off that day from the post office to Dwayne's) and a museum.
