New Old Film
Got some old school film from a member of my church! It's in metal canisters.

It's a variable speed film! I'll probably run it at ISO 400. I'll show off the results. I have three rolls of the stuff.

Re: New Old Film
Cool. Never seen that stuff before. How does it work? Do you tell the lab what EI you exposed for, or does it all get developed the same way?

Re: New Old Film
VERY cool Axle! Have any special scenes in mind for this? What development process does this use? You know I'll be keeping an eye out for some shots! :D:D:D

Re: New Old Film
A roll of this stuff will be coming with me over the weekend in my K1000. I'll be shooting at ISO 400, the subject...Ghost Towns. I'm actually headed up north and along my route are three Ghost Towns.
The processing is C41 actually, I'll be using Henry's as they are a pro lab, better able to deal with this sort of stuff.

Re: New Old Film
Everytime I am online I pop in this thread to look at that film...I can't wait to see the pics.

Re: New Old Film
Split the rolls in half and only shoot and develop one at a time.

Re: New Old Film
major bumpage here...but I have the results. I had it for a while but the CD with the scans were lost. So here's the results with the Agfa Vario-XL
Camera - Pentax K1000 with a SMC Pentax-M 50mm 1:1.7 lens mounted.
Exposed at ISO 400

I have the second and third rolls in cameras now

Exposed at ISO 125 in my Pentax MZ-7

Re: New Old Film
Looks pretty darn good. 400 ISO was a good choice. Nice work!

Re: New Old Film
Wow, this is "major bumpage"...LOL I actually thought about this a month or so ago and almost posted asking if you had any results. Did you end up developing this or have a lab do it?

Lab, my local one. It is C41 processing. I don't have the ablitity to develop stuff myself yet, but the bride and groom of the last wedding I did are going to be putting in a darkroom and offered it for me to use, so I'll be learning in the best way I can...with friends, in a group ourselves.
I have the ISO 1600 results in, I'll be working/posting those tomorrow.

Re: New Old Film
Didn't realize that was C41. I have a couple old school Kodak rolls in a box at home I wanted to try out but, can't find developing times anywhere :(

I didn't realize this was C-41 either. I never knew Agfa made a B&W C-41 film. I'm really curious to see the ISO 1600 results now. People say you can shoot Ilford XP-2 up to 1600 ISO, but I think anything above 400 looks pretty bad.

Re: New Old Film
LOL, I too was waiting for you to post some shots axle, I think your original post had many of us checking for these shots. I'm glad the film was good and look forward to seeing some from the other 1600 roll.

Re: New Old Film
And the 1600 results. A little more contrasty, slightly more grain...
Nikon F3
Nikkor AI-S 105mm 1:2.5
Agfa Agfapan Vario-XL Professional 125-1600
Exposed at: ISO 1600

I'll leave my final judgement when I get the 125 results...just have to remember to take the MZ-7 with me...

Re: New Old Film
And last but not least...ISO 125 (Camera - Pentax MZ-7 with a SMC Pentax-FA 28-80mm 1:3.5-5.6)

My final judgment on this film, it's a good film, the ability to expose it at different sensitivities is handy. However it is best at ISO 400, good even tones with excellent contrast! The C41 processing is handy so local labs can do it without needing to send it away.
If you find any of this film, get it!

Re: New Old Film
Jeese, how did I miss you updating this in November? DOH! You got some great results from this. Do you have any 100% crops you could post from the various speeds to see the "grain" comparison?
