Film ISO and camera ISO setting

How are you all doing, I just got into shooting with film, and new to photography in general, and I have a question:

For example, what happens if I use a 1600iso film and set the camera to 800iso? Does it over expose or under expose?

Over expose.
Lower ISO needs more light.

I bought a couple of 3200 B/W films--Kodas T-max P3200 and Iford Delta 3200. The camera I have only goes up to 1600ISO.

I have a followup question. Is the setting of the film ISO on the camera just a factor for the light meter, which will set the automatic shutter speed or does it individually effect exposure?

that is to say, if i am working on my camera in full manual mode, if i set the aperature at 11 and the shutter at 60, will the film ISO setting have any effect on the exposure?

I have a couple cameras that will only go to 1600 as well. Just compensate the extra stop with you shutter or aperture settings.

Hi so, welcome to PR You are correct, the film ISO setting is just for your light meter. If shooting an auto mode, then changing your ISO setting will effect your films exposure. However, it's still important to set it in manual mode because even though it won't directly effect your exposure, you still need the meter to be accurate to base your settings off of. Hope that makes sense.

Both if you're in automatic modes the camera adjusts shutter speed/aperture to expose correctly for the ISO change.

Yes, if you are in manual mode then changing the sensitivity will change the exposure.
