Video Camera for Snow and Cold

I'm looking for a good video camera to take up on the ski slopes.

I'm looking for something that can handle the temperatures, can use a tripod, and has full manual. I'm publishing my footage on the web as high resolution streams. Around DVD quality.

I currently using a PD170 in my classes.

    My price range is $500-$2,000.

    Any suggestions guys?

Btw, I'm also looking for one of the little "toy" handheld ones for youtube publishing and the like.

Stand Definition (SD), or High Def (HD)? You've been using a 3 chip camm do you want to stay with it or switch? If you're going with prosumer, do you need and external mic input?
