    recording with an av cable

I'm wondering if I can record directly from a TV or monitor with a AV input cable, which I've been researching. I'm mainly looking to record console gameplay footage. Current camera is a canon ZR80

    Do you have the manual?
Normally the cheapest camcorders in a range don't have AV-in, only out.
I'm surprised to see you can record from the AV port, but the instructions are really weird.
You play the blank tape, then press pause.
Then you can record from the AV or DV connector.

Re: recording with an av cable

if the camera has an av input then in theory it can do it, however sometimes the camera can detect that it is connected to a commercial device and it will print a watermark over the copied video. I guess the reason was to prevent people using mini dv cameras to make high quality copies of dvds etc so that commercial piracy became harder. so it will really depend on the device you are connecting it to. Don't ask me how they can manage not to send the watermark to a tv through the av cable and still send it too another device connected to it, but I have seen it happen.

according to the manual it should work on VCR, so it should also work on DVD/PS2?

manual is weird for combining 3 models and zr80 doesnt have the svid jack
