Hopefully you can get some direction on this forum. I'm pretty much a hack at video although I do make a fair number of camera review videos.

Hi John and thank you for the welcome:thumbsup:, my apologies for posting in the wrong forum and my thanks for moving my post, I've been trying to do sum videos of tropical fish Livebearing tropical fish in a setup similar to the location they came from, the tanks I use to photograph and video them I set them up inside the house, the problem is the white baleens with the videos the lighting I'm using makes it to worm using ordinary tungsten lighting, I don't know how to twig the video camra :mad2: the photography is ok I can use flash or edit in Photoshop, the videos I don't really want to go into baying sophisticated lighting the expense and the room

Optimum Strategies for Shooting Stills and HD Video Simultaneously during Photoshoot?
Greetings all,

I have been shooting photography and video for some time, and I am enrolled in a summer-school class where we are to come up with a brief business plan for our future photography/videography ventures.

Well, I am going to build a brand around shooting stills and video simultaneously, and I was wondeirng if anyone might have any recommendations as how best shoot hd video and stills at the same time throughout the shoot. Who are the leaders in this field?

Do any of you mount two cameras together (Such as a video camera and dslr), or set up dedicated video cameras or still cameras DSLRs on tripods? What brackets/systems/methods do you use for mounting stills and video cameras, and/or shooting stills and video together at the same time?

And of course, I will also be including a section on audio in my business plan, so any tips would rock!

Just looking for some ideas! & if I use your original idea, I'll be more than happy to provide you a reference!

I hope I can help point you in the right direction. This is really a separate topic, so probably deserves its own thread.

In short however, there really aren't any good tools that will enable you to shoot video and stills at the same time. Unfortunately in most cases the quality of one or the other suffers to much to make technigues like setting the cameras on a rail or dual tripods effective. The only possible option would be to buy a video camera of such high resolution that great still photos can be taken from a single frame of the video. There is such a camera on the market, but it is very very expensive. You can check them out at red.com, but they are system cameras, so by the time you add on all the little bits you need to make it work you will be lucky if it comes in under $100,000 Not only that but they aren't exactly user friendly devices. You want to be sure that you know your way around a broadcast video camera before you order one - I am not sure now but the waiting list used to be over 12 months long.

md I'm not so much concerned on shooting stills and videos at the moment as I have the nikon d 300 and 300s, with
Lenses: Sigma 105mm 1:2.80 DG Macro, Nikon AF Nikko 28- 80mm 1:3.3-5.6 G, Nikon af Nikkor|70-300mm 1:4-5.6 g, Sigma 50-500mm 1:4.6.3APO DG HSM D for photos, I would like to create dissent videos, maybe later with your help shoot stills and video simultaneously, it maybe better to explain when I have done more posting and you see what I have done so far , the hand book with the video camera is a lode rubbish like pages from a flat pack assembly , at the moment I've been trying to do sum videos of tropical fish , in a setup similar to the location they came from, the tanks I use to photograph is ok, I'm using the same tanks to do the videos, the problem is the white baleens with the videos the lighting I'm using makes it to worm using (ordinary tungsten) light bulb, I recently got a daylight bulb I haven't tried it yet maybe try sum sort of reflector blow it as long as there is no reflection on the glass, (what do you think) I don't know how to twig the video camera, I don't really want to go into baying sophisticated lighting the expense and the room,

You can't see them as they have been deleted by mods, but this thread has been spammed a lot. Volotwenutt was just one of them. I am guessing that you subscribed to the thread so you are emailed each time there is a new post. This would be from the spammers. The software that runs the forums has been upgraded so it harder for the spammers now, but it is still an issue.
