    In a word NO.
A mini dv tape records video at a much higher quality than the mpeg4 of the samsung if you want to play that game in excess of 10gb worth of video footage. so you would have a gb of crap video with the option to use another overly priced memory stick to save more poor quality video footage and terrible quality still images.

but hey if you want a small toy buy the samsung and give me the canon :-)

i can't understand why the world is heading towards this terrible video standard at a time when they are paying stupid amounts of money for high definition television sets.

if you don't care about the quality of the video then the samsung is an ok toy but it will never be more than a toy.

Definitely stay with the MiniDV. You'll be much happier with the quality. As Skyman said, the mpeg-4 just squeezes more stuff into less space and really mucks up the picture compared to the MiniDV.

totally agree here, and for great quality and value u cant really go past the panasonic 3ccd cams compared to the equivelant spec'd canon and sony cams.
leave all others out of the equasion, these 3 brands make the best cameras, but IMHO panasonic make just about the best digital video cameras on the market.
i have a panny NV-GS70 and the older NV-MX500, now have its replacement the NV-GS400, and just got myself a near new (8 mth old) panasonic DVX100AE here in aust for $2500 (new its a tad over $5000 in most places)
all my video work is eventually processed to dvd for my clients so transferring to my pc in type2 AVI and encoding to dvd mpeg2 format is all i ever work in.

    cheers....GLEN
