    Angry DVD camcorder

I have just purchased a Sony DVD202E camcorder and despite ages spent reading the user guide, cannot seem to find answers to the following queries (any help would be very much appreciated):

    1. The guide stipulates that DVD-RW disks in the "VR" mode must be used in order to enable me to edit disks on the camcorder - are there two types of DVD-RW disks (and I have the wrong ones) or can somebody please explain how to switch to this format on this specific camcorder?

    2. Is it possible to open and edit the DVD files (excuse my ignorance, however I am unsure what format these would be in) using my laptop. My laptop plays the films recorded using Intervideo DVD, however I was hoping that I would be ultimately be able to edit the disks using my laptop. I suppose my question is, do I need specialist software and if so, what should this be? I cannot seem to open the disk and find the individual files which I had hoped to be able to do by right clicking in Explorer.

    Many thanks in advance.

Did your camera come with any type of software from Sony? There should be something on the driver disks. I don't have any information on the camera yet, I'm stil looking. What about Windows Movie Maker? You might also try the Sonic MyDVD studio if you have a DVD burner.

editing to the discs described in your manual applies only to editing in camera. in theory it is possible to edit discs in your laptop but only if you either a)import the files into your computer and load them into an editing application such as windows movie maker or adobe premier (this would probably require software to convert the mpeg files into an avi format) or b) purchase a dvd ram drive (as this is the format the disk and camera use when utilising the editing function) and appropriate sony software (assuming it exists) to enable the on the fly editing of the disks.
