    Newbie Lens Question

    Hey
I'm brand new to these forums, and I just bought a Canon Digital Rebel XT and I wanted to buy a new lense. I wanted one lense that can zoom decently far. I am going to take all types of pictures but quiet a bit of action shots in sports. I found this lense which looked pretty good, but would it be fast enough for sports photography? I only have about 300 dollars to spend and all ideas would be appreciated thanks!!

    Re: Newbie Lens Question

The problem is that fast lenses aren't cheap, even second hand.

For sport, I'd find that maximum Aperture of f/3.5-6.3 to be a limitation.
To get best quality you will probably need to close the aperture a stop or two, and that's going to mean higher ISO or longer exposure. A real problem for indoor sports.

You might find f/4 fast enough, my leses are f/2.8 up to 200mm but I couldn't afford a fast 300 or 400, I settled for the Canon 100-400 f/5.6 which to be really sharp needs to be stopped down to f/8 at least.
