    UV Filter

    Best brand? And do they enhance your photographs? TIA

    They dont improve it, if anything, they actually deteriorate it by adding more glass. Their purpose is protecting the front lens element, thats it. If you get one, get a Hoya multi-coated, but, really - not necessary at all.

    Cheap UV filters are terrible, by the way.

    I'll echo what Anbesol said - their only purpose is to protect the front element of your lens. Camera dealers push them hard because they have a high profit margin compared to cameras and lenses. But your photos won't benefit from them in any way. It's not bad to get one unless you buy a cheap one. You don't want to spend $500 on a lens and then spoil it by putting a crappy, $20 piece of glass in front of it.

    I came across this thread looking for info on uv filters, I assume the above comments also apply to non-slr cameras - in my case the Fuji s200exr.
    I was also going to ask the difference between UV (O) and UV (C) filters but perhaps there's not much point now
