after going out and trying dslrs... now the D70 vs. Xt

I narrowed my search down to the D70 and the Rebel Xt. The 20D is far too expensive and the KM 7D is too hefty for my taste.

Both the D70 and Rebel Xt show great strengths. I am just concerned with the moire in d70. I heard it pops up in images sometimes. But i like the way this one feels. The other way around, I dont like the grip on the Xt but like the image quality and I own one flash 550ex.

From anyones experiences, which one would you choose? Have you had a similar problem?

Concerned by the moire? I never heard of that. I've done 6000 shots with my D70 and never had anything like that.

Yes, the Nikon D70 does have some moire problems. But its not something that appears all the time, its rare. I wouldn't let it bother me.

If you have an expensive Canon flash, do you have Canon lenses as well? That would make the choice obvious. I tend to favor Canon because of the lens selection and what I feel are better prices for equivalent lenses. Let's not forget to mention affordable image stabilization! But either camera will work well.

Which camera feels more intuitive to operate? All other things being equal (and these two are relatively equal), ease of use is what allows you to concentrate on getting the picture and getting the keepers more consistently. If all you have is the 50mm f1.8 Mk II, then get the camera you really like the best. I've played with both these cameras, and honestly, I liked the feel of the D70 over the XT-and this comes from a heavily invested Canonnite.
