    Image # 1000 - Am I wearing it out?

I've had this camera since Friday and I've shot over 1000 frames so far.

This is mostly due to continuous frame shooting critters in my front yard. I hope the novelty wears off soon before I wear out the camera.

This is also my 3rd set of batteries. The first 2 were alkaline and this set is my first set of rechargables. I think the battery life of the *ist DL is quite good. Beats the Fuji Finepix 3001 hands down.

Should I force myself to slow down or do you think it will happen naturally over time?

I shoot 1000 - 2000 frames most weeks and sometimes I shoot 1500 in a day. I guess you could check with the manufactuerer and see what they say about number of shutter actuations. Both of my bodies are supposed to be good for 200,000 actuations but those are $4000 bodies.

you'll get over it :-) I probably did the same thing over and over with every new camera I've purchased-not sure I racked up 1000 shots a day though. Most shots I've taken in a day is about 800 for a wedding. JS is right, though, check with your manufacturer and find out what your shutter is rated for.

My God I feel so slack about shot numbers, won't even mention what my 10D's action count is.

I agree, Peter - my 2-1/2 year old Fuji S2 probably has 10k or so on it...

I'd say that it's natural to shoot a lot when starting out, and with a new piece of equipment. It's part of the learning curve. Eventually you'll recognize conditions that are great photographic opportunities (great light, great subject matter or possibly both at the same time!) and go crazy during those situations. Other times you recognize that you're not going to get what you want, so you end up not shooting. Of course this doesn't apply to jobs where you have to get a shot!

Question for any to answer. I've been seeing it mentioned in various posts about a camera's actuations. When you reach your max and the camera stop shooting is it something that can be easilly reparied or is it time for a new camera.

A camera won't suddenly stop working at 60,000 or whatever the rated life is. That rating is for the life of the shutter, which since it's a mechanical device, will eventually wear out. I don't know how they do their rating but it if it's like other things then they take a sampling and when half have failed then that's the life of the equipment. So - it may be more, may be less. Generally, people don't wear out shutters too often...

Only 1000, CL...shoot, I've got 5k on DL in less than a month. I've gone through so many recharges, my charger is threatening to go on strike...oh...and that is with the DL only...hehe...not counting the Nikon or Kims *ist DL...hehe...

Homer...as AV stated...it's a mechanical device and is rated for just so many uses, but as with any mechanical or electrical object, it can give out after 5 uses or continue for 500,000. Odds are it will give out long before that, but...no one can tell for sure. Do your best to care for your camera, keep it out of the extreme temps and moisture and you will get the maximum life out of it!!!

I'm afraid to think how many shots I've put into my *st D. But my old MX cameras are still going strong, so I figure the chip will be outdated well before the shutter wears out.
