    Tamron 28-300mm XR Di
Looking for a cheap larger lens to have a bit of a play with, what sort of results are people getting with this lens. I will be using it on a Pentax *ist DS but I am guessing it would give similar results with other cameras with similar sized sensors. The price seems pretty good used so I will probably go that way.

    Cheers.

I have this lens for my Canon digital rebel. It's a good walking lens with exceptional range. Many reports mention picture image quality at the wide open end of the zoom that I've yet to find after shooting over 1,000 photos at both ends of the zoom range. Check it out for yourself at your camera shop before taking the plunge as it may not be the right lens for you. I did and it found fit my needs as I wanted an inexpensive single do all lens for hiking.

Pity it is not just a little wider for hiking, I guess I will still take my 18-50mm.

You could also check out Tamron's new 18-200mm lens if you want a bit more on the wide end...I think it's going for about $400, which is a bit more than the 28-300, but wider always tends to be more spendy.

Thanks DBF, I do actually have a Sigma 18-200mm DC, quite happy with it as well. A mate got a 170-500mm Sigma but the price is way over what I can go to. Just trying to find something between the two.

    Cheers.
