    Question Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 + EOS Utility + Canon 50/40D

    Hi,

Can anyone share information as to whether canon EOS utility recognizes the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 when put on a 40D or a 50D. In short I'm planning on buying a tamron 17-50 f/2.8 and I'd like to be able to control the lens focusing using the EOS utility in live view mode of either 40D or 50D.

That lens does have the built in AF, as does any lens Tamron makes for the Canon mount. I am curious why you think it would act any differently?

I'm not sure whether the EOS utility running on the computer will recognize a non Canon lens and if it does, will it allow it to adjust its focusing from within the software.

I'm not sure since I have never used the EOS utility (as I have never used a canon DSLR) before, so I just want to be sure that it works before spending any money.

The folks over there think that the eos utility shouldn't have any problem recognizing the lens.

However I'm actually going for a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 instead

I'm an astronut, in the more advanced stages of a disease called aperture-fever. (I actually built a 1500mm f/7.4 telescope by hand, including the optics).

I often tend to go for the largest aperture possible a given amount of money can buy (provided it produces good results). The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 seems like a very nice lens!

And I'm quite impressed by some of the pics it takes
