    Rebel XT vs. 20D
I've been into photography for a long time, and have always loved taking pictures, but I've really gotten into it lately, and all I have is a point and shoot.

I think I wanna look into gettin a digital SLR, but not sure which one. I know a handfull of guys that have the 20D and love it, but it's a little expensive. But again, I'm gonna have the cam for a while, so it might be worth it in the long run.

I don't have near enought money for one yet(Just spent a grand on a camcorder), but I should have enough for a full setup after X-mas .

Tell me what you guys think, 20D or Rebel XT? Or any others you would suggest, but I might be able to get a deal on a canon.

I think that there's a whole field of entry level DSLRs out there not made by Canon, but if it comes down to the 20D and XT, then this page should do you a world of good.

    Some others are:
    Nikon D70, D70s, D50
    Pentax *istDS, *istDL, *istDS2
    Konica Minolta 7D, 5D
    Sigma SD9, SD10
    Olympus E-300

They all have their advantages and disadvantages. Knowing nothing about you or your needs, then I (or anyone else) shouldn't do any blind recommendations, since all of the cameras are perfect for someone and none are perfect for everyone.

Depends on your budget and what you want to shoot.
The 350D (Rebel XT I think) has almost all of the features of the 20D at a lower price.
What it's missing for me is the things that make it suitable for high speed sports.

You will have your lenses longer than the body, I think. You will probably be better off spending money on good lenses, you may be able to afford an "L" lens like the 24-70 2.8 L zoom.

When the 5D comes out, then the 20D will drop in price retail, and I think there will be a number of people upgrading and selling second hand 20D to fund their new 5D.
That would be a good time to look for an upgrade of your XT to the 20D :)

I have had my XT a little over a month now and just absolutely love it! It far and away exceedes my old canon 35mm rebel or my elan 7N. The picture quality is great and its so fast for being digital it blows my mind. After using a point and shoot digital mostly for the last few years, it feels amazing to have a nice SLR back in my hands.

I just got the 20D after using a point and shoot for awhile. And i am glad i went with it. I got off the net from dell on sale and rebate for 1100 - local camera shops would not go down and were selling it for 1600. Check the net for prices. Here is a great site that i found that reviews cameras.

if you dropped the extra bucks for a camcorder like you di you are obviously more interested in quality than price.

go with the 20d. you'll be glad.
