Nikon D90 - Manual Mode

Hi,
I'm new to this FORUM...

I bought the NIKON D90 with 18 - 105 mm lens last week. I shot some pictures in an arena on the weekend. I put the NIKON in MANUAL Mode...

The WEIRD thing was that the aperture was setting itself automatically every time I zoomed in and out of a scene. I didn't have any control of the APERTURE setting. Is this normal? I thought that in MANUAL MODE, I could CONTROL EVERYTHING !!!

What was the aperture you set?
The 18-105 is a variable aperture lens.
If you set it at 3.5 and then zoomed in to maximum it would reset to 5.6.
If you had apertures smaller than 5.6 it shouldn't change.
