Newbie sez hi! anyone from Maryland?
    Hello to all.
I am a Canon XSi (currently w/ 4 lens) owner.
I searched the internet for a good and friendly camera forum and decided to
stop here and hang my hat.
    Did I do right?

So, is anyone from Maryland? I live in College Park.
I am 55 years old and would love to find some friends to go out and take pictures
with. I have a rough time motivating myself to get my butt out of bed before the
sun comes up to scout for good spots to take pictures.

Would love to get together with someone, anyone. Even a small camera club
would be great but I cant find anything! :(

    Hello, Nats, and welcome!
You obviously have good taste in choosing forums.
I'd love to go shooting with you but the country is kind of wide for a casual get together.
There are other Maryland and D.C. shooters here.

Thanks Frog. Yeah, I guess Wa is a bit out of my area :D
I'm sure I will eventually connect with someone.

About 80% of what I am doing is macro. Mostly pictures of reptiles right now.
I am pretty new to digital, so I have alot to learn. I'm sure I will have alot of questions
as I explore my new Canon (just got it 2 weeks ago) :)

I have been into 35mm SLR since my teen years, but I havent been keeping up with it.

La PLata, its the snobby part of southern Maryland. Never thought you would see a stuck up hick, well we have them.

I'm about 90% sold on the Nikon D60

I am (I mean will be) shooting captive bread geckos (mostly leopard geckos).

Re: Newbie sez hi! anyone from Maryland?
Actually, my first project with my new Canon XSi will not be the geckos.
It will be macro's of my glass art collection. They are marbels of various size,
and I will need to rig something to light them from behind and no front light
    to cause reflections.
So that will probably be my very first photo posting on this forum

The gecko project will take some thought.
They live in terrariums with paper substrate (very ugly to take photos of).
I want to make a photo "set" on a table and shoot at ground level POV.
I hate pics of small animals taken from above and looking down on them.

Welcome to the site, Nats! I am looking forward to seeing your photos. You've got some interesting technical challenges and it will be cool to see what you end up getting. Do you know about light tents? A light tent might be perfect for your marble photos.

    Welcome.

I'm currently from Maryland (Easton on the beautiful Eastern Shore), but am relocating to Indianapolis.

Try to join a local camera club....it';s a great way to meet similar minded people. I've already joined a club in Indy & have already participated in several road trips.

    Thanks Len.
I have been searching for a club on Google. Cant find anything except a formal
(and booked) one in Baltimore, which is too far from me anyway.

    Any suggestions?

You have to ask the right question.
Which means you already have a clue what the answer will be...

For sure there's a Bethesda camera club, with very good photographers.
Here's the link for the Bethesda group: http://www.nbccmd.org/about.htm

I live in Reston, about 30 minutes from DC..
