New Lens, Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

This is my first lens with Image Stabilizer and I wanted to know if there is anything special about them that i should know of. To start off i know i should turn it off if its mounted on a tripod.

Anything else?

Don't forget to use it. You also need to find it's sweet spot as well which is usually around f/8, take images of the same thing from the same position and same lighting and go through the f/stops, maintain proper exposure as well, then you will see the quality of the lens at it's f/stops.

I have this lens and have used it for about 4 years now.

Just don't use these for basketball! I have broken three 28-135's in three years and one was a rental :eek: then again, maybe I should just stay away from them :D

It's a very sharp versatile lens. I wish Canon could make this lens in an "L" version, with a faster constant aperture. In the meantime...I had this lens for a while, but I really missed having the f2.8 speed of the 28-70 "L" and the color palette of this lens is a bit on the cool side, so I gave it away to a friend. There are times when I wish I still had this lens, because of it's relatively small size and of course, IS. You will not be disappointed in this lens.

I've owned two of these lenses. I liked the lens but didn't love it. The photos seemed, well, a touch lifeless to me. I also own the 28-70 2.8L and would use it, then compare the photos with the 28-135, and eventually sold the 28-135. I just could see a difference. The L lens produces a luminous result. The 28-135 photos looked fine... until I compared them to the L lens.
