Help: Manually adjust aperture and shutter speed.
Hello guys... Can anybody tell me how to manually adjust the aperture and the shutter speed of a NIKON D3100? I have set my cam on M mode in the mode denial but I cant seem to adjust the other. I really want to try capturing photos where I am the one setting everything and do all the testing afterwards.

I had that issue with my D5000. Turing the dial set shutter, and you held down the +/- button while turning to set aperture. I could never remember the which button, so I'd go to aperture-priority mode, set the aperture, then go back to manual.

If you have an auto lens you can't use the f-stop adjustments on the lens itself. They have to be set to minimum. What I do is set the camera to A and then set the aperature with the dial. Then I can set the camera for S so I can set the shutter speed with the dial.

If you have a manual lens, in M you can set the aperature on the lens.
