    D50 Vs. D70s

I am starting to really get into the creative aspect of photography with my fuji f10. I am still a beginner but like taking nice long exposure night shots and whatever comes to the eye that i like. Right now I am steering towards the D50 just because I think at my level it would suit me well. I think for now i would just get the basic 18 - 50 or 70 lens kit then upgrade to a telephoto. Thanks.

    Hi xsport652,

I'm not sure about all the differences between the D50 and D70 (I have a D70). From what I read though, the D50 provides better pictures straight off the camera (requiring less post-processing). If you are just starting out, I'd say simpler is better. Make sure you get a good introductory SLR book that covers the basics of focal length, aperture, and shutter. If you understand these, then you will not need a lot of the "auto" modes (-- except for white-balance).

For lens choice, the 18-70 is incredibly versatile. I also have a zoom, but use the 18-70 for 97% of my shots.

    Good luck,
    Tim

what im saying is at my level i think the extra features on the d70 would not be used. If that helps any.

    Re: D50 Vs. D70s

I have the D70s and I LOVE IT. But the D50 is essentially the same, and cheaper. I believe the D70s has a bigger LCD screen.

Don't cheap out on the lens, though. I have the 18-70 and Tim is right, it is very versatile and I also use it for almost everything. You should also get a good circular polarizer/warmer, it's worth the approx $100-$150 you'll spend on a good one.

    Enjoy!

As stated above, I recommend the 18-70.
