    Digital Rebel and Compact Flash
What is the fastest CompactFlash that the Digital Rebel can make use of?

I would like to buy the Lexar 80X, but that may be over kill.
    Thanks

    Check Rob Galbraith's CF database:

...hopefully that links to it. The Lexar 80x is rated "best" but look at the margins...the Rebel will not do justice to the 80x for its price. It's up to you, but when I had the Rebel I bought a 1 G "standard" Sandisk and also an 256 MB "Ultra II" Sandisk and for the life of me could not tell the difference in typical shooting. With the 20D it's a different story, though.

Save your dinero, get an inexepensive CF card.
I've got 2 10D's and a 1DMkII, with a 512 MB Lexar 40x, 1GB IBM microdrive, and plain old 512 MB and 1 GB Sandisk cards, both regular and Ultra. I can't tell the difference between any of them, on any camera. Well, OK, the microdrive seems a little slower to write to, and read from, and chews up more battery power too. And to be fair to the Lexar 40x, Canon is not one of the camera's listed by Lexar to be WA compatible. But for the money, the differences aren't really noticeable, imho.

The DR can only write to the card at about 24x so anything above that will not reach its speed capacity. The best advantafge of having a high speed card for the DR is for transferring to your computer with a 2.0 USB Card Reader, there is where the faster cards shine.
In faster cameras like the 20D, D70, and the high end cameras, their processors can take advantage of the fast write speeds of these cards.

Thanks to all for the responses on this subject of speed.
