    Help please on DSLR choice

    Hi everyone

It's time to upgrade my digital camera and I'm interested in purchasing a DSLR.
Does your average DSLR have a movie function of good quality?

Should I be thinking of a decent digital video camera with the ability to take good quality stills? What sort of pixel quality would such a video camera come in?

Any advice and pointers appreciated.

DSLR's do not have video functions. Video camera's don't really take great stills. If you can get or only want one camera, I guess you just gotta decide what is more important to you.

Hi, I would invest in two different products. A DSLR with a great lens and a small pocket sized video camera. This way you will get the very best of both worlds.

I went the way of a small pocket sized MiniDV camcorder and a nice camera. Its definitely been the best combo.

Video image captures are 640x480, unless there's been improvements in the field that I'm not aware of. Most point and shoots have video modes, but you give up a lot by going for a point and shoot over a DSLR.

I'm sure many vid cams these days do the standard dvd resolution of 720x480, and now HD (1280x720) or HD1280i (1920x1280).

consider something like a panasonic fz50.. its not a dslr but then again its not a point and shoot either.. and unless u are prepared to carry a bag full of heavy weight lenses around with u and a seperate video camera it will do things a dslr will never do..
