    In-car shots - HELP!!!

    Hi guys,

My first post here, and I look forward to many more.

I just purchased a DSLR (Canon D80) and I wanted to get some opinions on shooting from inside my car.

I'm trying to get a photo of the leather shift gear in my car.

This is the photo from my basic Canon Elf:

It looks like crap, trust me, I know!

I want it to look more like this:

    What do you guys suggest?

    Thanks in advance

Tripod for a start, you photo has camera shake.
Better lighting, the other photo looks like it was a cabrio with the roof open in sunshine.

Would you change any of the camera settings? Exposure, etc?

If you have enough light, then the camera even in "P" mode will automatically use a faster shutter speed and help get rid of the shake.

    Here's a shot I took with my Nikon D80.

Any tips on how to improve the quality?

    Cut out the clutter ?
What were you trying to photograph ?

For the gear lever you need to be to the right and up a bit.
Then zoom in, or get closer to take out the centre console. the steering wheel, the seats.
Clean out the centre storage where there's what looks like a pen.

If you can, use more than one flash, or use a reflector on the right to fill in the shadows.

Perhaps even use a wider aperture and blur the console/radio if your lens will let you.

Another way: get the plane of focus to cover both the //M logos, by going to the centre, lower down and angling slightly down.
