    Sony 9 vs. DSLR

i'm getting a camera for my 18 birthday, and i'm very new to photography, i want a camera to shoot landscapes, action (skimboarding and surfing), but also i want one that i can learn to use pretty easily and a good quality camera to last a long time without having to upgrade.
so my question is whether i should get a sony H9 or any low line (under $700) DSLR
any advice would be appreciated, thanks

You will get more out of a DSLR in my opinion. The prices are just to good right now. You will always have the option of buying different lenes and you can always upgrade bodies and keep the glass. I am sure the Sony is a great camera but I think a DSLR is the way to go if you intend on getting serious with your photography. Be sure and browse the reviews here and ask as many questions that you need.

dslr, especially since you want to do some action shots. Shutter lag and action shots don't go together well.
