Camera confused

After reading a few posts i know i want a DSLR due to the fact one post had said the quality of a low end DSLR is better then any P&S camera....i hope thats true! The D70 gets a lot of thumbs up by most people and i was getting all pumped up about that being the one i wanted. But after seeing the price tag after all the extras i just can't do it.....camera alone here in canada is 1500$. Do i need a D70..no. I want to take photos of waterfowl, cars at the drag strip, and snowmobiles in the winter....so i need a camera thats decent for moving objects. I also want people to say WOW thats a nice pic not just nice pic.

My budget is max 700$ US or 1000$ here in Canada. One store up here will be having some great deals this weekend to combat a new store opening up. They only have Sony and Fuji. Is the Fuji S7000Z worth considering? I read where they called it "SLR-like" which kind of makes me wonder. Any opinions are welcome!

What about a Canon Digital Rebel with a kit lens it comes with, that might be in your ball park area. Remember you can always order from the States and have it shipped there, like from B&H Photo and Video.
