reccomend a DLSR for sports photography

I will be shooting football, basketball, but primarily baseball and am willing to spend up to $800 on a body. After browsing through review sites I am thinking of getting the Nikon D40x but I thought I should get others opinions before making a major investment. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the site,
I really don't know too much to help you out. I just purchased my first DSLR last month, the Canon XTi. The one thing that I can say is it's best to go to your nearest store that has a few different models and try them out. See how they feel and take some pictures. I know when I was looking I went to C.C., they don't have any memory cards in them but you can still take pictures with them.

You should hop over to the sports forum. What I found is to capture sports it was more about the lens then the camera. If I had to choose over a really nice dslr or a really nice lens to shoot sports with I'd pick the lens every time. Unfortunately, I think you will probably need more $$.
    It's not blurry. It's bokeh.

I agree with the E3. It would be one I looked at very seriously. I have seen some great low light images shot with it. We should have a Pro review on the E3 soon.

Better wait a bit on that. As much as I like the new camera, we need to see it in action before we know how well it performs in the field. And Olympus has been very careful to qualify the auto focus performance with only one lens. I am anxious to see how it performs. But right now, if I was to make a sports camera recommendation, it would be Nikon or Canon. However, that may change soon. We have the E-3 for review now and my turn with the camera is coming up in a couple of weeks

I agree with the lens comment above. I shoot a lot of indoor basketball and volleyball with a Oly e-500. I spent around $800 for a faster lens (50-200, f2.8) versus my kit lens and definitely noticed a difference.
