Auto White Balance Vs. Custom White Balance using a Canon Xt(350D)

Also to note that these were Shot using Av Priority with F/4.5 ISO-100 I also shot these in Adobe RGB

The reason I asked was if you shoot RAW, you can easily adjust white balance after the fact. If you're shooting in a controlled environment, then I think a custom white balance is useful. Otherwise I would just use auto white balance and shoot RAW.

I've had enough experiences where I thought I was doing something unimportant but later decided it was very important. now I shoot maximum resolution and RAW all the time. It's just not worth it to me to risk JPG. If the color is off, they're way too hard to fix. If my exposure isn't right on, they're way too hard to adjust. And I rely on the extra dynamic range in my RAW files so that I can get what I want in post processing.

Call me a dinosaur, but I always shoot raw and almost always set a custom white balance. While raw is easier to work with and make adjustments, when shooting in low light a dead on exposure will have less noise at any given ISO than one that is not dead on. At high ISO it can be noticeable.

I also always use a custom white balance product, not a piece of paper. Paper, even "white" paper is rarely truly white.

Just had to give up some of that old film days training. It still fits in the digital age.
