Anybody have success with Nikon Capture?
    Hi all,

Maybe this should go in "Software", but I'll ask here and not double post. I hope more Nikon users see it....

I like some of the features of NC, but it is just so painfully slow that I just can't stand to use it. When I watch it on the task manager, I see that it is utilizing huge amounts of memory -- but hardly any CPU. It just takes so long to move (even just saving files).

So, anybody out there have success with it? If so, what is your computer setup. I only have 512MB RAM. But, my system is more that sufficient working with RAW files in PaintShop Pro.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
    Tim

Before Nikon Capture life was - oh no I have to use the D70 again with JPG.

After life was - hey I know I can do this with the D70 in RAW.

My system with 512MB behaves normally with NC. If yours is not using any CPU and the disk is thrashing then try defragmenting all your disks. Make sure your pagefile is at least 1GB and that it's not fragmented. If that doesn't work then reinstall NC.

Alternatively - if you're using the multiple picture select feature then it's loading all your images in memory at the same time. I only open one image at a time.

    Thanks Charles,

    I'll check those.

After searching Nikon's pages, they did note issues with NC running on XPxp2 and AMD processors. I may be affected. They provided a work-around.

FWIW, PaintShop Pro reads NEFs. It's very fast. But, it doesn't let one change the tone curve nor apply a custom curve (if you are using one). There are also a few other NC features that I like. But, I prefer to to most tweaks with PSP.

    Again... thanks,

    Thanks Franglais!
The thing that made NC run snappy was an uninstall/install.

I processed 50 images last night with NC, and it was just a pleasure. Before, NC was so slow that it was like pulling teeth. I just used NC for those NEFs that needed special treatment.

    Thanks for the suggestion...
    Cheers,
