8gb Compact Flash cards?

I've seen people on here that have 4gb CF cards, but has anyone used an 8gb card? Just curious if there is a max storage limit (mainly the K100D, E510, D40, or XTi)?

I don't know, but best buy has Kensington (sp?) 4G SD cards on sale for $34 down from $75.

I have an 8gb A-data CF card, but I don't use it very often. I had some techinical problems with another A-data card so I'm a little leary of them. I keep them around as last resort, just in case I run out of room on my other cards.

Check out www.newegg.com for CF cards. They have 8gb cards ranging in price from $47 to $174.

I picked up an 8 gb extreme III when Amazon had them on sale for $99. I have been using it here in Cambodia for the last several weeks with no problems.

Wouldn't your battery go dead before the card was filled?

I use two 8GB Ultra II Sandisk CF cards with my Canon 40D. I trust the Ultra II series as I used (and still use) three 2GB Ultra II cards with the 30D for over a year and never had any hint of problems even after 50,000+ exposures.

The 8GB card will hold about 540 RAW images from the 40D. I will probably pick up a third card tomorrow - I see that my local store (microcenter) is having a sale on them for $99.

I use 8GB cards as my primaries- I have 3. I currently use Lexar 300x and SanDisk Extreme IV for fast transfer speeds and high quality. When putting so many eggs in one basket, I figure I may as well use the quality big-name cards to minimize my chances of a bad card.

I use the Transcend 266x 8GB card with the D300. It gives me about 360 shots with 12-bit RAW+JPG. The D300 is one of the few cameras to support UDMA (up to 40MB/sec) - the D40 would write at a slower speed.

An important factor for me is how quickly you can read back the card to storage. I'm in the middle of an event and no space left and I change cards and transfer the images to a portable drive and the faster it happens the better.

I made some measurements with transfer rates to my equipment. Finally I decided not to go for a high-speed Firewire CF reader (40MB/sec) and stick with a high-speed USB reader (18Mb/sec - cost me $10) :

USB2 to my old desktop (6 year old 1.4GHz Athlon) = 9MB/sec
USB2 to my sister's desktop (1 year old dual core) = 18MB/sec
USB2 to my ARCHOS portable disk = 9MB/sec
PCMCIA to my portable (1 year old dual core) = 0.5MB/sec

Conclusion : not all CF readers and computers are equal. In particular the PCMCIA CF adapter is a disaster.
