What's the best non-semiprofessional camera?

I need a camera which takes awesome photos like a semi-professional camera and it has to be easy to keep and fit in my pocket.

The awesome photos part isn't hard. The review sample pictures of some of these pocket cameras is pretty amazing. The hard part is find one with features a lot of serious photographers want. If you need to be able to attach a filter, take long exposures, or have a cable release, that makes it hard.

The camera is merely the tool, the photographer is what makes it professional. There are National Geographic photographers that use P&S cameras and there are many new to photography that use high-end DSLRs.

Sure we can get bent on semantics and the classification of product type, but lets be realistic, any camera can take awesome pictures.
