    What would you choose?
    Hi,

I'm new to dslr, and I have 3 cameras that are interesting me,

    1. Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18K

    2. Fuji Finepix S9600

    3. Fuji Finepix FX-S8000

Now, I would like to know why one camera is better than the other.

    thanks,
    Ryan

Just a quick welcome to our site. Have to run now but just for clarification, none of these cameras are DSLR cameras. They are digital cameras just not DSLR cameras, there is a BIG difference. Also when you finally decide on a camera be sure and read the sticky in the Camera Dealer Feedback Forum before purchasing anything, Jeff

I like the S9600 for the styling and it looks like it has a better lens design than the other fuji.

I would avoid Panasonic at all costs, I've had really bad luck with their products, though they are great for the initial reviews, their longevitiy is unacceptable.

We've had no problems with Panasonic.
FZ-25 lasted two years, until Angie gave it to our son.
LZ-5 lasted 2 years so far, dropped 3 times, still going fine.

    Leica?
It's based on the Panasonic DMCFZ-50, which is probably cheaper.

    Re: What would you choose?
Regarding Panasonic, I've had a point and shoot for close to a year and love it. I've also had a Panasonic camcorder for over 15 years, and it still works fine. I also have a Panasonic DVD player/recorder that I've had no problems with, going on 2 years. Mr Yuck, I think you've just had bad luck.

I can't believe it. I wasted my 1000th post on this. :mad2: Granpaw sent me a PM to warn me, and I forgot. I couldn't find a delete option for this message either. :cryin:

I just was at TestFreaks ( http://www.testfreaks.com/digital-cameras/ ) and compared models above.
    Okay. Here are the results:

    Panasonic DMC-FZ18
Score: 8.1 out of 10 based on reviews from 101 sources in 22 countries.

    Fujifilm FinePix S9600 Zoom
Score: 7.2 out of 10 based on reviews from 73 sources in 20 countries.

    Fujifilm S8000
Score: 7.4 out of 10 based on reviews from 10 sources in 6 countries.

In this comparison the best rating has Panasonic DMC-FZ18.
As for me - I'm absolutely agree with crowd.
    Anyway it's up to you!
