Using slave flash with P&S digital camera ?

Hi, this is my 1st post here & I need some comments if this will work.

Camera : Fuji finepix F420 (built-in flash only, no hotshoe)
Attache a flashgun and bracket to the camera. Trigger the flashgun via the camera inbuilt flash using a slave module. (I believe its a photodiode thingy which connects the flash gun and activate it when a bight light from other flash is sensed.

Will the camera exposure system able to handle this properly ?
Any other pointers that will enable me to take properly exposed flash pictures ?
