Why just these two cameras? What do you plan to shoot/what is your max budget? There are so many Point & Shoot options out there.

    Ta,
Well my budget is below $160
i usually go out looking for good pictures, nature mostly.
but i plan to use it as a pocket camera for friends and parties.
already bought the S2, but i can sell it
I always had Canon and because of the reviews, i can see both cameras are good
but i cant decide which one is better both cameras have good pros and cons

Since you've already made your choice, I hope you enjoy it and have fun with it! I'm sure you'll find it a good little camera

(Out of the two, the S2 would have been my choice)

    Thanks Cath
But why that one, i mean the A590 have excellent reviews
what about the quality of the pictures because of the new chip Digic III and the more Megapixels?

I mean i can still sell the S2

Bearing in mind that I haven't done a thorough read of the reviews/performance evaluations and I that I know little about the Digic technology, these are the specs I felt were important considerations towards how versatile the cameras will be:

    A590:
    Sensor size 1/2.5 "
    Pixel density 32 MP/cm²
    Aperture range F2.6 - F5.5
White balance override 5 positions plus manual
    Min shutter 15 sec
    Max shutter 1/2000 sec
    Flash range 3.5 m
Flash modes Auto, On, Off, Red-Eye reduction, Slow Sync

    Canon:
    Sensor size 1/2.5 "
    Pixel density 20 MP/cm²
    Aperture range F2.7 - F3.5
White Balance 6 positions & manual preset
    Min shutter 15 sec
    Max shutter 1/3200 sec
    Flash range 4.2 m
Flash modes Auto, Fill-in, Red-Eye reduction, Slow Sync, Off

The aperture range alone is a winner IMO, at the longest end of the lens, you'll only be able to set your aperture to f/5.6 on the A590. Doesn't leave much room, and can be difficult in low light situations.

I'm also with the camp that believes that more (as in pixels) is not necessarily better. The sensors are the same (very small) size, and there is some correlation between higher pixel density and image noise.

Having said all that, I'd have preferred a S5 over even the S3, which I have. It's not that much more than the S2 you bought (about $100) and it has a hot shoe for external flash. Those little on board flashes don't do much :skep:

    Interesting
never before pay attention to the aperture range in cameras (noob lol)
    my old A40 have F2.8 - F4.8
i guess the aperture range have a correlation with optical zoom of the lens and price.
So a big tele like this one with 12X needing a lot of light in complete zoom is it good having a Small Fstop for leting a lot of light coming in
    is that so?

Yep, small f number equals more light, and the more light you can get is generally better - you'll see less noise in the image, especially for indoor shots.

Play with your camera and don't worry about the little details like pixels and super zoom

Is this a bad sign? is this number increment with time?
the photo counter number is in 7k photos, thats a lot of photos taken qith the camera
What is the fair price for this?
    Dont be too harsh lol

Are you sure they are dead pixels? Could you post them up and let us see?

I think it largely depends on the kinds of pictures you're going to be taking and if you want a more compact camera that'll fit in your shirt pocket. Granted, the A590 is a tad heavy for the pocket, but it'll fit better in a purse or pocket.

As for dead pixels, there isn't really much you can do but return it while you still can.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the hot pixels, so you are at 5 million pixels minus 8. I can't really tell too much from that image, if you take a picture of something solid bright white, or neutral gray, you'll be able to see the exact problems of the sensor more accurately. Sort of a bummer, but not a biggie, thats my two cents anyway.
